09/2026 Two conference talks by Dr. Ma’ayan Lev at the UISPP World Congress and the ICAZ Microvertebrate Working Group Meeting

Dr. Ma'ayan Lev has had a busy start to September, presenting her research at two international conferences. First, at the XXI UISPP World Congress in Poznań, Poland, she discussed how early sedentary settlements at the PPNA site of el-Hemmeh (Jordan) fostered synanthropic communities in her talk, "Small prey exploitation and emerging synanthropic communities at the PPNA site of el-Hemmeh (Jordan)." Her presentation explored how rodents and then predatory snakes were drawn to human-occupied areas, where specific snake taxa were incorporated into the site's subsistence.

A week later, at the ICAZ Microvertebrate Working Group Meeting in Malta, she discussed how squamate bone accumulations in the Levant shifted from being raptor-driven to human-driven from the Middle Paleolithic through the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A in her talk "From raptor prey to human consumption: shifting herpetofauna accumulation agents in the southern Levant".
